Our Self Esteem module maintains a focus on self-awareness and self-acceptance. Our youth are plagued with self-esteem issues due to the high demands and expectations placed upon them from popular media. We have been teaching how to set one's own standards for excellence and accept oneself...flaws and all. We are all beautiful!
PYD's COMMUNITY POTLUCK
PYD host our annual Community Potluck. Our girls come out to provide hot food, refreshments and snacks to those without homes in Detroit. We encourage our girls to learn to view the homeless as people, first. In the process, they also learn about gratitude and the true meaning of giving.
LEADERS IN TRAINING
It's never too early to learn skills that you will use for a lifetime! We are always busy teaching valuable life skills. PYD members engage in lessons on Business Etiquette, Mock Interviewing, Completing Job Applications, Reading Job Descriptions and Completing Resumes. We believe that even our youngest girls can master this skill with encouragement!
MILLION SHOE MARCH: SHOES FOR SOLES IN NEED
'The Million Shoe March: Shoes for Soles in Need' gives volunteers an opportunity to distribute thousands of shoes, socks and hygiene items to Detroiters in need. Each year we distribute thousands of items. Join us as a volunteer!
Our Confidence & Leadership module emphasizes the use of one's voice/assertion, positive decision making, self-confidence, organization and vision. Members express themselves through drama and writing. Each of them has a skill and we're going to help them find it!
PYD relies on our community members, young and wise, to teach our girls essential skills that can easily become lost and forgotten in the technology age. We expose our members to skills that transcend generations and help them to become well-rounded women. Want to become a Life Skills Instructor?
Our Etiquette module emphasizes the importance of proper behavior in public and private. With topics ranging from formal/informal introductions, cell phone and internet etiquette to learning about formal dining etiquette; our girls are equipped to take on the world!
There's something for everyone at PYD, even parents! PYD Parents are close-knit group who share the common bond of parenting in a tough time. They still find time to laugh and have a good time. Parent Group events have included Extreme Couponing Seminar, Mother/Daughter Teas, Hustle Dance Classes, Self Defense Classes and more!
MONTHLY SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS
Each month we engage in a self-initiated community project or team up with local Detroit organizations who are doing great work in the city.
Each project has a lesson and purpose to deepen the appreciation for giving, serving and creating solutions to the world around us.
